The general procedure of classical sleeve gastrectomy surgery is performed laparoscopically, with 4-5 small incisions and using special surgical instruments. In this procedure, the stomach is thinned into a tube on the left side, thus reducing the stomach capacity and the person can take in less food. In the single port technique, unlike the classical method, it is performed with a single incision and all procedures are performed through this incision.

The reason why the single port technique is advantageous over the classical sleeve gastrectomy surgery is; The surgery is completed with fewer incisions and thus less pain. It also eliminates the risk of the incisions becoming infected or bleeding, which is one of the risks of classical sleeve gastrectomy surgery. When examined cosmetically, there is no scar left since it is a single incision.

The disadvantage of the single port technique is that it is not suitable for every patient. Because laparoscopic surgical instruments are used from a single entry point and maneuvers are limited. Apart from this, it should be reminded that it is still a sleeve gastrectomy surgery, it is a major operation and carries other risks of sleeve gastrectomy surgery.

Patients whose Body Mass Index is between 35-40 and who have health problems due to obesity, and whose general health condition is suitable for surgery and anesthesia, can undergo gastric sleeve surgery with the single port technique. However, patients who have had abdominal surgery in the past, have a large liver or spleen, or have hiatal hernia are not suitable candidates for surgery.
